Yes, I know, a lot can be said about the role of banks in today's society. But sometimes they bring good stuff, too. Like the time I had to do this illustration for Dexia's "eco credits". The image was used for posters, internet banners, and advertising on Dexia ATM screens.

And because I didn't post a lot recently, here's a sketch for a second poster that wasn't meant to be..
Yesterday, a bunch of us went to visit our friend Bert Dombrecht and his wife, to see their lovely new born daughter Bette. We made a book for her with small stories and illustrations. This was my contribution.
Well, I made this deal to update more often. I won't tell you how often, but regarding the current status of this blog, it will be a pretty drastic change. Hopefully the new year card for 2010 will be gone from the opening page soon then ;)
So, here are some sketches from the last few days, including some "joyeux jeudi" stuff.
Sorry I didn't update for such a long time. I haven't got a good excuse, so I'll just get started!
Today I'll show you some color scripts I've been working on a while ago . It's for a documentary, where parts of the story will be told in cut-out animation. It's still in production, so I can't give more details now, but I was allowed to put these online. Enjoy!
(no, that's not he Polar express, it's the international tram between Belgium and Germany)
It's been a while, I know. I've been quite busy lately, but can't post any of that now. But it will come, one day, and change the world!
Untill then, enjoy these studies I did for an everlasting personal project about the local myth of "The Goat Riders". So these settings are based on the Limburg area where I grew up.
update: this music video has been doing quite well! It has been selected at Pictoplasma, Brussels Shorts, Istanbul, and The Los Angeles Film Festival. It was also featured in Stash Magazine, and at cartoonbrew, motionographer, the line boil, and drawn.ca, and our very own Humo Magazine!
This is what kept me busy after my regular job for the last 4 weeks:
Official Music video for single "You Look Familiar" by Team William.
Directed and designed by: Michélé De Feudis & Joris Bergmans
Animation and additional design: Lois Van Baarle, Koen De Koninck, Michèle Vanparys, Maxim Vandeputte
Special thanks to: Birger en Reinder Vankeerbergen
A while ago I made these designs together with Michélé De Feudis for a new product from Milka. It was commissioned by Ogilvy Belgium, who wanted a traditional animation feeling, so that's what we went for. We did the characters together and I did some additional color styling to determine the atmosphere. In the commercial a transition from fall to winter was supposed to happen... I believe the commercial is being done in live action now, though...
It has been a busy month... I was comissioned by KlaraFestival to make a promotional video for a huge art installation by Marty Schnapf, that might take place in Brussels next year. It consists of 115 sound responsive light balloons, a concert performance of Mozart's Requiem, and many more elements. You can find more information here.
The video lasts about 3.5 minutes and had to be finnished in less than 3 weeks on a tight budget, but I think we managed well! I did the art direction and background design, while Camiel Hermans did the characters and animation and Marike Verbiest took care of most of the compositing.
This is a commission I did for two friends from high school. Nope, they're not gonna marry, but they do love each other deeply, I suppose! And they like Scotland, too. Cute!
The second picture is more of the characters for this project, the first one is a quick study of where it could take place. I want to combine the charm and warmth of picturesque Italy with the buzz and excitement of a busy city. There's still some work to do...
While studying 2 years ago I made the movie "Rain" with fellow student Jonas De Ro (who graduated this year with his beautiful thesis movie "Sintra"). The movie captures a moment in time when a rainstorm rushes over a city.
At Annecy this year a simular movie played, called "Rains". It's pretty much the same movie, only done in a totally different way (and twice as long). I guess the synopsis is not that hard to come up with, but I still find it interesting how both movies turned out so different, yet so much the same.
